Tools cast in caramel sugar. Each one a portrait of a worker on the crew.
Carpentry and demolition tools—mallets, sledgehammers, nails, scissors—cast entirely in caramelized sugar. Some pieces use isomalt, the synthetic zero-calorie sugar pastry chefs work for glass-like effects. Some use white sugar.
Each object stands in for a member of an undocumented worker crew I worked alongside. A portrait of shared precarity, in a material that holds, stains, and eventually dissolves.
